Camping Code of Practice
Campers should aspire to minimise their impact on the environment by adhering to the following code of conduct:
- • Campsites should not visible and should be at least 300m from a building or roadside.
- • Campers should remove all food waste and litter, whether biodegradable or not. Buried waste can be exposed by foraging animals and erosion.
- • Latrine Protocol; Catholes for disposal of human waste should be at least 30m away from watercourses and 50m from walking routes. All toilet paper and hygiene products should be carried out.
- • Campfires should not be used, a camping stove should be used for cooking. The MSR Whisperlite is efficient, lightweight and inexpensive.
- • Soap and toothpaste should be kept at least 30 metres away from rivers and streams.
- • Dish and utensil washing should be conducted at least 30 metres from water bodies. All waste-water should be strained and scattered.
• Campers should conduct themselves in a quiet manner, disturbing neither the wildlife, locals or other visitors.
- • Campsites should not be used for more than two consecutive nights and tents should be moved every day to avoid undue damage to vegetation.
- • Camp-sites should be kept visually unobtrusive.
- • Campsites should be left as found, or better.
• Leave No Trace and remember If you were there, then the rubbish is yours, even if you didn’t leave it.
- • Report to local authorities any damage to property or the environment.
